Hi,
I have completed running HadGEM historical and RCP 4.5. While analyzing the historical data, the SST value is closer to the observation data. But in RCP 4.5, the value starts from 2°C which is totally wrong.I am unable to figure out what could have gone wrong. I have enclosed the sample files of historical and RCP 4.5 for your kind reference. Kindly help me on this regard.

Hi Geetha,
Can you clarify if you are running PRECIS (HadRM3P) or HadGEM3-RA?

For PRECIS there was a bug in the RCP4.5 ancillaries that made them 100 times to small (as you found).

If you are in fact using PRECIS, please do this

1) Download replacement files

http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL/master/H ... s*_v1.*.gz

e.g.
http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL/master/H ... v1.2006.gz
http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL/master/H ... v1.2011.gz
and so on -- there are quite a few files.

2) Remove the incorrect files

Code:
cd $ANCIL_MASTER
rm HadGEM2-ES_rcp45_sst*
rm HadGEM2-ES_rcp45_seaice*

3) Copy the files downloaded from 1) into $ANCIL_MASTER

4) unzip them

Code:
gunzip *.gz

5) Replace the ancil config file

Code:
cd $UMDIR/vn4.5/ctldata/ancil_config
mv akwsl  akwsl.old
wget http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL/ancil_config/akwsl

You should now be able to start over downscaling RCP4.5 HadGEM2-ES with correct sst and sea ice values

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks
David

Dear David,

I am running PRECIS (HadRM3P). Initially, ancillary files for HadGEM-ES 4.5 were missing in $ANCIL_MASTER directory. I have queried in precis forum with the subject entitled "Ancillary files missing while running RCP 4.5". Mr.Simon replied my query and asked me to download the ancillary files from http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL_PRECIS2/. Further he suggested me to replace the ancil_config file with http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL_PRECIS2/ ... nfig/akwsl. I have completed running the model with those modifications.

Are the ancillary files downloaded from http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL_PRECIS2/ wrong? Do I have to run the model from the beginning by replacing the ancillary files as suggested by you? Kindly clarify my queries.

Regards,
Geetha

Hi Geetha,

The corrected HadGEM2-ES rcp4.5 ancillaries all end in _v1. That is the key. If you followed my instructions in my previous message, you will have restarted the experiment from the beginning with a modified config file that tells PRECIS to use the repaired SSTs (all of which end in _v1) rather than the old, faulty files.

Does this answer your question?

If not, let me know
David
