Hi,
I have just installed PRECIS newest version, run the test and it worked (quick question here: do I need to remove precis previous version?)
Now I am trying to use the HadGEM-ES (askwss) boundary conditions and I got an error creating the ancillary files, presumably because I do not got the right ones, so I checked the link to download missing ancil files and could not find the right ones (according the the vm4.4/ctldata/askwss file) so I edited it and change the sst HadGEM and sice HadGEM with sst and sice. aenwh.
And that worked but not so sure that was the right thing to do, was it?

Second question, so after changing that the model find another problem, now with lbc_update_cmip5 which I am guessing is a problem with perl (as that was once a problem with lbc_update) but that is just a guess.

I attached here the leave file.

cheers,
Ruth

Hi Ruth,

Do NOT use sst.aenwh when downscaling HadGEM2-ES (these come from a different GCM). I will upload the correct ancillary files and post once I have done so.

Simon

Hi Ruth,

Regarding your other questions:
  • it is advisable to remove (or alternatively, set these variables to new locations during installing) $UMDIR and $ANCIL_MASTER before installing a more recent PRECIS versions.
  • I'm puzzled by your lbc_update_cmip5 error. Please can you send me the files ~/umui_jobs/prdab/SCRIPT, and ~/umui_jobs/xaats/SCRIPT . Also can you check the date of the file ~/umui_jobs/xaats/SCRIPT - I want to make sure that it has come from the latest installation.

Alternatively, email ssh,or TeamViewer details to precis@metoffice.gov.uk , and I will log in and have a look at your system.

All the best,
Simon

Hi Simon,

the date of the xaats/script is 06 sept.

I put all of the previous precis under a different directory ($home/precis)
and installed the new one in $HOME/Precis_ vn2.0.0

However by looking the files that you asked me to, I noticed that in $HOME/Precis_vn2.0.0 there is a umui_jobs directory with just 3 subdirectories (userstash, xaats, xacga) and then in $HOMe there is another umui_jobs directory (i.e. $HOME/umui_jobs) and in that one is where the prdab lives).
So I think I have now quite a mess.
Probably I should delete all the new version files and re-install everything?

is there any command to remove precis or shall I just remove the directories and files?

Hi Ruth,

My guess is that the directory $HOME/umui_jobs/xaats is from an old PRECIS installation.

Can you view the file $HOME/Precis_vn2.0.0/umui_jobs/xaats/SCRIPT, and search for line pp4lbc_timestamp=\\w{5} ? If it exists, then try copying $HOME/Precis_vn2.0.0/umui_jobs/xaats to $HOME/umui_jobs.

All the best,
Simon

PS. I will begin uploading the ancillaries today.

Hi Simon,

I did as you say and still not running (I know I still do not have the proper ancillery files, just wanted to check if the error was gone).
It is still a problem updating the lbc, but is new error. I am sending the leave file.
But right now I will remove the newest version of precis and re-install it just to be sure that every directory lives where it supposed to live.

Hi Ruth,

Please can you attach /home/rcerezo/Precis_vn2.0.0/precis_expt/prdab/lbc/akwssa.bag9c10.d16014.t101735.out ?

Simon

Hi Ruth,

I have uploaded ancilaries to http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL_PRECIS2/

I have also uploaded the ancil_config files to http://www.precisrcm.com/ANCIL_PRECIS2/ancil_config. These files can be used to tell you precisely which ancillaries are needed with each GCM. Also note that early releases of PRECIS2 contained a small error in the HadGEM2-ES ancil_config files that would cause PRECIS not to run.

All the best,
Simon

Hi Simon,

I cannot, I deleted all the files and directories and did a clean new installation, test is running. After that is done and with the new ancil files that you sent will launch a new simulation, fingers crossed!

Hi Simon,

As I said I did a clean new installation and then run the test and it worked.
But when trying to run the simulation with hadgem, the model crashed again! I think is a new error but always in the lbc update stage.
I attach here the leave file and the out file as well.

help! please!
