Dear PRECIS users

I need help to make a run 1960-1990 for echam boundary conditions. When I try to start the run the monitor says ERROR: Failed to update ancillary files

Best regards
Luis

Hi Luis,

This post descibes the process of downloading the correct ancillaries for the particular GCM that is driving HadRM3P (the RCM).

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66

In your case, I strongly recommend that you consider using HadCM3Q0 (aenwh) if you have it, or ECHAM5. The ECHAM4 GCM is now deprecated. We still "allow" echja (the A2) for 1960-2100 but I think B2 echjd is now limited to 2070-2100. So I would not proceed with the experiment bolac. Create "bolad" with the same parameters except using a different driving GCM (aenwh, echvc).

If you need new boundary data, just let us know. We can also set you up with a newer version of PRECIS.

Thanks
David

Hi David,

Thanks for your help, I take your word about the two things: the new version of precis (or if is it possible to download it we can do it), and the new boundary conditions. We really want to continue working with PRECIS

Best
Luis

Hi Luis,
The new version of PRECIS (version 2.0) is being beta-tested and should be ready for its first release within weeks.
It will be downloadable.

Hi David,

Is it PRECIS v 2.0 already available? On your web page http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/precis/workshops there are several broken links. I would like to know the status of my request: boundary conditions and the new version of PRECIS please

Best
Luis

Hi Luis,

There will be a PRECIS2 announcement next week.

For boundary data please email precis@metoffice.gov.uk with the following details:
  • A description of your research, planned use of PRECIS and experimental design including:
    • The boundary data and time periods that you require.
    • Your domain. This is best done by attaching your .rgn file (in the PRECIS user interface click on Region tools --> export region, choose a name for your region and then click save. The file will then appear in the $SAVEDIR directory.
  • Your contact details including a fill street address and telephone number.

All the best,
Simon
