Dear all,

I have successfully install PRECIS in my Linux Mint computer based on David's guide yesterday. However, after selecting the domain and necessary set ups I get an error while running the model. It says:

1. Error in UMSUMIT - shown on screen
2. I inspected the start up file and it shows me:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRECIS version 1.9.3

RUNNING SCRIPT WITH ARGUMENTS:

/home/nakhap/um/vn4.5/utils/restart abcaa NRUN

Fri Jun 6 08:09:46 WST 2014
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRECIS version: 1.9.3
Max number of concurrent PRECIS jobs: 2
TYPE is NRUN in /home/nakhap/umui_jobs/abcaa/SUBMIT
FROM_PRECIS=true
Starting with command:
/home/nakhap/um/vn4.5/utils/umsubmit abcaa >>/home/nakhap/precis_expt/tmp/abcaa.restart 2>&1
Your output will be sent to file:
/home/nakhap/precis_expt/precis_output/abcaa000.abcaa.d14157.t080946.leave

TYPE=NRUN: Creating new file /home/nakhap/precis_expt/tmp/abcaa.time
/home/nakhap/umui_runs/abcaa-157080946/SUBMIT[327]: at: not found [No such file or directory]

ERROR in umsubmit => Experiment abcaa not started.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have attached the overall structure of how the error is being generated.

Please kindly solve this problem for me.

Thanks in advance.

Khandu

Hi Khandu,
PRECIS needs the AT daemon installed and running.
http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl8_atd.htm

To download in Mint, try

Code:
sudo apt-get install at

Once atd is installed, then Mint will need to be configured to automatically start the AT daemon at bootup time. Go into the Mint Menu, and search for "startup" at make sure atd is enabled.

This might help:

Hi David,

Thank you very much once again. I saw a similar post by Simon but could not figure out the right package. Nevertheless it is up and running now and I shall post error messages if any in the relevant section.

I have one question though. I m wondering if the model automatically calculates the time-step. Since I m running at 0.22 deg resolution, it might require a smaller time step than what is set as default (150 sec). If it does not, how do we alter the time-step.

Kind regards,

Khandu

Hi Khandu,

The model's time step has been robustly checked in hundreds of PRECIS experiments to date. Two and half minutes with a double sweep of the atmospheric dynamics is sufficient to keep the model stable. Increasing the time step (e.g. to make the run go faster) could cause the model run to go unstable and crash. Decreasing the time step is only necessary if the model is crashing because the time step is too big for some reason (which is unlikely). There is a way to change the time step, but I am reluctant to explain how because we don't think it is a good idea. If you do find that your model runs are crashing and we determine that the time step is too long, we'll explain how to do this.

Thanks
David
